Mathletes – Mathletes is a group of students in grades 5-8 who enjoy all aspects ofmath from adding and subtracting to computation and problem solving. Students practice various problems and participate in activities to enhance their knowledge of higher-level algebra, geometry, word problems, and statistics.

Spelling Bee Club – Spelling Bee Club is for students in grades 6-8 who areinterested in exploring the origins of words, parts of speech, and the correct spelling of challenging words while preparing for the Scripps Spelling Bee competition. One student will win the opportunity to represent SRW at the Cuyahoga County Spelling Bee in the spring.

Geography Bee Club - Geography Bee Club is for students in grades 6-8 who find Geography fascinating and exciting. These students will have the opportunity to participate in the National Geography Bee in early January. To prepare for this competition, the students will collaborate with each other to enhance their geography skills, interact with technology, and explore maps to investigate our diverse world.

Book Club – Do you love to read? Students in grade level bands (grades 3-4, 5-6, 7-8) will have the opportunity to read a common novel. They will meet to share their opinions, analyze characters, discuss story plots, and discover the author’s purpose. Let a new book take you on an adventure!

Power of the Pen – Power of the Pen is a creative writing club for students in grades 7-8.  Students practice writing essays or short stories based on given prompts in preparation for competition in three different tournaments: District, Regional, and State. Over 7500 students from hundreds of Ohio schools compete in these tournaments each year.

LEGO Robotics Club - This hands-on after school enrichment activity is a great way to apply math and engineering to real world situations.  It provides an opportunity for those passionate about the two fields to dive into deeper understanding about the world of math and engineering, meet new people, learn together, and have fun in the process.

  • Robotics Level 1 (Grades 4-6) This is the introduction to robotics.  Here, students learn to assemble and program the LEGO Mindstorm robots.  Students learn to follow the building instructions to build machines for basic programming.  Students will explore how light, touch, sound, and ultrasonic sensors can increase the capabilities of the robot.
  • Robotics Level 2 (Grades 4-6; 7-8 with permission) (Prerequisite: Robotics Level 1) Students use the skills developed in level 1 and take their skills to a higher level.  They are given a task and must design their own robots and write their own programming in order to complete the task.  Their designs will be field tested in an obstacle course.

Science Club – Science Club is offered to students in grade level bands (grades 2-3, 4-5, 6-8). Fun and engaging science experiments will expand their knowledge and imaginations in all areas: physical, chemical, and earth sciences.
