My name is Donna Tizzano and this is my son, Zachary who is in the 5th grade at Ss. Robert and William. My daughter Hannah, who is unable to be here due to a VB tournament, graduated from Ss. Robert and William in 2012 and is now a sophomore at Villa Angela St Joes. We were asked to speak today about why Catholic education is important in our lives.
There are countless reasons I can give, but what came to mind first when I thought about the question is that there has never been a tougher time to be a good parent. Everyone who has children knows how challenging it is to raise them to be people of integrity. I need all the support I can get and I feel I get that support by sending Zac and Hannah to Catholic school. What I try and model for my kids at home is re-enforced each day when they go to school, through the commitment of the teachers and priests that teach in our Catholic school communities. I want my children to see faith as part of life. I want them to understand the connection we all have to each other as brothers and sisters and the responsibility we have to give back to our community, and to carry on the mission Christ has taught us. I believe there is a sense of community, even family, which is part of the culture of a Catholic school and I know the faculty and staff work very hard to maintain that culture. I can go on about other important elements of a Catholic education – discipline, the importance of academics, going to Mass every week, daily prayer – but what it all boils down to in the end is that I want to know I have given my children everything they need to become the best people they can be. As parents, we hope and pray that our kids will turn out to be happy, successful and contributing members of society. For me, the best way to guarantee that outcome is by providing a solid foundation that I hope will serve them well now and for the rest of their lives.

About Mrs. Sondra Meden

I am beginning my 30th year of teaching, 28 of those years have been spent right here! I am a graduate of Youngstown State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree, and have many hours of post graduate work. I am teaching social studies, my favorite subject! My husband and I are the proud parents of 4 adult children, all of whom are St.William alums, and the delighted grandparents of 9 beautiful grandchildren. I look forward to working with all of you to make Ss. Robert & William a fantastic 21st century school.
